The largest lock in the world in Antwerp, an innovative quay in Panama, the sustainable and architecturally outstanding Résidence Palace in Brussels, or the entire A11 motorway — all Jan De Nul Group!
Civil engineering works: the cradle of the group and still a major division. Jan De Nul Group focuses on complex projects and offers clients — both private and public — a tailor-made total package. This approach, combined with technical expertise and years of experience, ensures that we are among the absolute top players in civil engineering as well.
Every day, Jan De Nul Group faces major challenges that require significant effort to achieve objectives — during the preparation phase, as well as during and after execution. As a Contract Manager, you are responsible — in close consultation and collaboration with various departments and site teams within the organization — for monitoring the contractual aspects of projects, with a strong focus on preventing and resolving disputes during project execution.
The role is characterized by the diversity of (sub)projects, people, issues, and challenges. You are an advisor, negotiator, decision-maker, and problem-solver all in one. This requires excellent communication with the various departments and (site)teams within the organization, as well as clear and correct communication with subcontractors and clients.
Your responsibilities include:
- Negotiating contracts with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Compiling supporting documentation for claims (cost calculations, delays), in cooperation with departments such as Estimating and Planning.
- Supporting project sites in ensuring contractual compliance with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the project.
- Acting as the point of contact for all contract-related matters throughout the project’s duration for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensuring all contractual correspondence and documentation is properly and consistently archived.
- Establishing and monitoring contract compliance processes, identifying non-compliance issues.
- Drafting letters and claims.
- Developing and implementing solutions to prevent and resolve disputes.
- Providing necessary input for the successful handling of disputes.
What do you need?
You hold a Master's degree in Law, Civil or Industrial Engineering, or Commercial Engineering, and have a solid understanding of construction law. In addition, you are familiar with both the private and public sectors and have a strong affinity for managing technical, legal, and financial projects.
You have at least 5 years of experience in (contract) management, with demonstrable negotiation skills and a proven ability to solve problems. You are fluent in Dutch and have a good command of English and French.
Working at Jan De Nul means contributing to solutions for some of the greatest challenges of our time — from the energy transition to rising sea levels and smart mobility. It means learning every day and working together, with the goal of ensuring global quality of life for future generations.
