Job Description
The Application & Technical Service (ATS) Manager is a key leadership role responsible for guiding, mentoring, and developing a highly engaged and experienced team of Application Engineers within the specialty tapes industry. This role provides direction for customer-facing technical support, ensuring the team delivers proactive solutions and cultivates strong, lasting relationships with key customer technical staff and leadership.
The ATS Manager will drive the team's contribution to the new opportunity pipeline for existing and developmental products, working in close collaboration with Sales, R&D, and Marketing leadership. This position is accountable for the overall performance of the ATS team, including resource allocation, project prioritization, and ensuring the technical support provided directly contributes to maximizing business growth. Additionally, the role oversees the strategy for technical application and product training for both the sales force and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and develop a team of Application & Technical Service Engineers, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring continuous skill enhancement. Conduct regular performance reviews, set clear objectives, and manage individual development plans.
Technical Support Oversight: Provide oversight for all technical support activities, ensuring timely and effective product recommendations, complex technical issue resolution, and the proactive identification of customer needs.
Customer Relationship Management: Guide the team in developing and nurturing strong relationships with key customer technical and executive contacts, understanding their long-term needs and aligning our technical solutions.
Business Growth Enablement: Partner with Sales leadership to accelerate the conversion of the technical opportunity pipeline and support the commercialization of new products by leveraging the team's technical expertise.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with R&D, Marketing, Sales, and Operations to provide technical insights, inform product development roadmaps, and ensure seamless technical integration from concept to customer delivery.
Training & Knowledge Management: Oversee the creation and delivery of comprehensive technical and product training programs for internal sales teams and external customers, ensuring a high level of technical competency across relevant stakeholders.
Prioritization & Resource Management: Effectively manage team resources, prioritize projects, and balance daily operational needs with long-term strategic initiatives to maximize impact on business objectives.
Travel: The role requires periodic strategic on-site customer visits, industry events, and internal meetings, with weekly travel averaging up to 25-30%.
Qualifications
Education: Minimum a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics, or Polymer Science required. A Master of Science degree in one of these disciplines is preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of progressive technical experience, preferably in adhesive, coating, tapes or similar chemical and application oriented industries
3+ years of demonstrated leadership and management experience leading technical teams, ideally within a customer-facing application engineering or technical service environment.
Proven track record in customer relationship management and driving business growth through technical solutions.
Experience with product development, product commercialization and sales processes.
Experience in developing team strategies, managing performance and fostering talent.

Strong customer focus and the ability to instill this focus throughout the team.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French, Dutch, or German is a strong plus, given the regional context.
Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
