The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) offers the opportunity for a motivated and highly skilled professional to join the Finance team of the Administration division in Brussels as financial officer. The EFTA Secretariat serves the four EFTA States – Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland – and has offices in Geneva, Brussels and Luxemburg.
The Administration Division (ADM) provides internal services and support to the whole organisation, including in the fields of facilities management, finance, human resources and information technology.
This position is open to nationals of the EFTA States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland).
Role Description
The position entails working hands on with controlling and financial reporting.
The Finance Officer is also expected to be able to lead improvement initiatives within the Administration division.
Responsibilities include:
Financial reporting and analysis
Controlling of accounting and coordinating the year-end closure process
Project management of business improvement processes
Acting as Head of Finance when necessary
The financial officer will be a part of the financial department within the administration division and reports directly to the Head of Finance.
The financial department consists of 4 staff members, the Head of Finance, the Financial Officer and two Finance Coordinators. The financial department is responsible for the financial management of the organisation with offices in Brussels, Luxemburg and Geneva, as well as EFTA’s Financial Mechanism Office.
Essential Skills
Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or other relevant fields
At least five years of relevant work experience in the fields of financial management, accounting, controlling, audit, and/or consulting
Solid understanding of accounting, controlling, and reporting
Sound knowledge of and experience in using at least one accounting software package, and excellent command of MS Excel
Fluency in written and spoken English
Excellent interpersonal skills, engaged, highly motivated, and able to take initiative
Ideal Skills
Experience as superuser in IT systems and/or experience with implementing systems.
Experience with payroll would be an asset
Experience in public procurement would be an asset
Experience with MS Dynamics 365 Finance and Power BI (Power Query, Power Pivot, etc.)
Experience in project management and leading business improvement processes
Experience working in an international environment
Self-reliance, autonomy and a proactive approach
