VITO is currently working on an ambitious spin-off initiative developing innovative adsorbent technology for lithium extraction. Our approach offers a promising alternative to conventional processes, enabling a more sustainable and economically viable model for lithium production from aqueous streams.
To realise this market opportunity, we are looking for a Spin-off Business Lead: someone who can thoroughly develop the business case, sharpen the commercial strategy, and help pave the way to an independent spin-off company.
This is a temporary strategic assignment of approximately 30 days in 2025, with a clear future perspective: if the investment decision is positive, the logical next step would be for you to take on the role of CEO of the newly formed spin-off.
Your role
As Business Lead, you will be the driving force behind the commercial validation and strategic design of the technological concept. This is not a classic general manager role focused on daily operations, but rather a mission to deeply shape the business case and define the market strategy.
You will work closely with technology experts, the parent organisation and industrial partners to translate the potential into a concrete plan, gather customer insights, and build a compelling investment story.
Your responsibilities
Conduct market research and validate demand for lithium adsorbents across different industrial applications.
Develop and refine a robust business case and commercial scenarios (pricing, CAPEX/OPEX, scale-up economics).
Define and test the commercial model (direct sales, licensing, production partnerships).
Set up and lead discussions and negotiations with potential customers and industrial partners.
Translate technical features into customer value and a clear value proposition.
Develop investment memoranda and support funding rounds or subsidy applications.
Collaborate with R&D and technical teams to create a viable go-to-market strategy.
Actively shape plans and priorities for further technology development and commercialisation.
Strategic thinker with proven experience in business case development, investment dossiers, and commercial strategy.
Background in materials processing, recycling, mining or related industrial sectors is highly valued.
Affinity with (or knowledge of) chemical processes, water treatment, mining, or battery raw materials is a strong asset.
Commercial and analytical skills to translate complex technology into clear market opportunities.
Experience with market analysis and business development, ideally in an industrial or B2B context.
Entrepreneurial mindset and motivation to truly help build a new company.
Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch.
Willing to work in Belgium.
