Umicore Battery Materials (UBM)

What you will be doing
You will be part of the Process Technology team for Cathode Active Materials (PT-CAM) within the business unit battery materials. As the Senior Manager of the Process Design and Engineering (PDE) team you will lead a team of process engineers. You and your team will be responsible for the process engineering and process design for multiple investment and improvement projects. You have the responsibility to implement new process technologies within existing plants and within expansion programs. Further, you are responsible for improving the process engineering documentation and the related governance. As you will be leading a global team, you will intensively collaborate with colleagues at different locations worldwide (Belgium, Poland, Korea, Finland, China and Canada).
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the process design and process engineering of our production lines worldwide.
- Responsible for continuous and full alignment on all process aspects within your projects with all your stakeholders (R&D, CAPEX engineering, Production and management).
- Ownership of the process engineering documentation and improvement of the documentation system and related governance structures.
- Technology and supplier evaluations to assure the selection of the best equipment for each investment project.
- Safeguard technology selection of R&D from scalability and cost perspective. Ensure that all process technologies developed are industrially viable.
- Lead the upscaling of processes towards Mass Production.
- Deploy your team’s expertise by assisting regional teams (Process Technology, Engineering and Operations) in case of issues and troubleshooting during commissioning, validation and ramp-up phases.
- Lead and improve global expert teams of different technology domains to align all regional process engineering activities and reflect potential changes in the global, state-of-the-art industrial line designs.
Team coaching & management
- Lead a global team of (senior) process engineers in all aspects (P&O, project allocation, resource planning, training, …).
- Development of the people in the team, both from a scientific and management side.
- Identifying resource needs and taking appropriate actions to adjust the team organization.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with:
- Master (or PhD) degree in an engineering related field (with a preference for process engineering) with >10y experience in the field of process engineering;
- Proven experience in process industrialization;
- Experience with (large) expansion projects;
- Sound knowledge of process engineering documentation such as P&ID, PFD, PCP, Mass and Energy Balance, Process Description, Control Narrative, URS, 2D/3D Drawings;
- Experience in project management;
- Knowledge in process safety – chemical safety, ATEX, dust exposure prevention;
- Experience with cost calculations;
- Excellent reporting and communication skills in English;
- Strong organizing skills;
- Decision making skills, perseverant and committed to results;
- Good communication skills, open, respectful, convincing;
- Ability to operate in a matrix structure in contact with different departments;
- Proven track record to coach, encourage and empower your team;
- Strong leadership and people management skills;
- Problem solving skills: systematic and methodological approach, ability to synthesize; Creativity in generating solutions.
