Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Site Lead, Synthetics External Manufacturing Drug Substance, located in Belgium, Switzerland or US.
This position is responsible for base business supply of commercial and new product/launch preparation in Synthetics. You will lead the Drug Substance CMOs to ensure that products are available to meet customer needs, provide the highest quality at the lowest total cost of ownership, and achieve maximum relationship value through accelerated innovation, supplier integration, process improvement, and collaboration.
The role acts as Virtual General Manager for assigned relationships, providing oversight for all activities and leads the Virtual Management Teams (VMT) including external Quality, EHS, Manufacturing, Science & Technology, Procurement, Planning and Finance to drive high performing sites. The role handles a spend > $20MM.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy: Shape external network & strategy. Influence, and support IMSC strategy by providing input on the external landscape related to partners and CMOs. Benchmark other J&J and partner companies and industries to identify innovations, continuous improvement, and best in class processes to support External Manufacturing and business development initiatives. Deeply understand and communicate evolving market opportunities.
- Partner Assessment: Assess partners’ capacity and capabilities to support IMSC sourcing initiatives. Lead partner assessment and new product implementation in coordination with VMT functions, including site visits. Define technology transfer expectations and supply strategy with partners.
- Partner Management: Serve as Virtual General Manager with external partners and lead J&J VMT in partner management, providing oversight of all activities and financials. Establish and maintain performance metrics and targets with the goal of improving supply, processes, and systems and eliminating duplications regarding supply, compliance, finance, and strategy.
- Partner with Procurement in agreement negotiations and ensure proper functional inputs. Align VMT to manage compliance to agreements, as well as overall cost management including seeking cost reduction opportunities.
- Develop and manage Account Plans and manage VMT in delivering on all objectives. Define and establish priorities, requirements, expectations, results, and partner needs between IMSC functions and partners using negotiated agreements.
- Technical Development Support: Project manage implementation of new product launches at partners to ensure timely product availability. Manage plans related to implementation of product changes.
Qualifications
Education:
- BA/BS required, MA/MBA preferred
Experience and Skills:
- Minimum 8 years experience in the areas of general manufacturing (pharma DS and/or DP, or other similarly regulated industries) and business management (business development, procurement, value chain management).
- Demonstrated knowledge of functions including Quality, Manufacturing Science & Technology, Finance, Planning and Procurement.
- Understanding of end-to-end supply chain considerations and methods of driving continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated experience crafting and working with negotiated agreements.
- High level proficiency managing supplier relationships.
- High level of credibility with internal customers, and within the external manufacturing supply chain community.
- Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints; has ‘presence’.
- Proven track record leading cross-functional teams.
- Proven examples of delivering step function performance improvement while managing risk
- Demonstrated flexibility to respond to changes in the external and internal environments.
- Preferred General Manager supply chain experience.
- Broad business and technical knowledge of pharmaceutical industry.
