Role Purpose:
Execute LIC’s second-line risk management framework, responsible for ensuring LIC (including its branch offices in EEA countries) operates according to its risk management systems and in line with risk appetite by monitoring risk exposures and by assessing adherence to LIC’s policies.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Support the development, delivery and implementation of the Company’s risk management framework to monitor and measure risks of the Company, and to ensure risk appetite and policies are appropriate.
- Support Business stakeholders in assessing their risks and risk incidents to ensure they are managed in a prompt and appropriate manner in line with risk appetite levels and use experience and expertise to challenge business.
- Support Business stakeholders in ensuring Company policies/processes have been appropriately implemented in the EEA countries where LIC does business.
- Be responsible for your specific risk domains, risk management activities, policies, risk appetite framework, and other key risk management framework documentation.
- Support the compilation, assessment and reporting of risk information to the CRO, identifying significant risk management issues.
- Support the compilation of an annual risk plan and the performance of detailed reviews of key risks.
- Support the embedding of the risk management system throughout the organisation and promote good risk culture through training, communication and promotion of good practices
- Respond with agility to ad hoc requests from the Chief Risk Officer or Operational Risk Manager, including supporting other members of the team
Skills:
- Ability to manage high volume workloads and produce workable solutions that meets the demands of the situation(s)
- Ability to maintain independently effective personal workload plans that are achievable, prioritised appropriately and aligned with functional and business needs
- Ability to engage, communicate and influence at all levels – internally, externally and globally, and build trusted relationships in the business areas which the role supports
- Ability to constructively challenge technical experts across the organisation and draw observations and conclusions based on evidence and reasoning
- Ability to structure, analyse and present complex information in a clear, accurate way appropriate to all levels of the organisation, including Senior Management
- Ability to work accurately with minimal supervision and make decisions based on a broad understanding of relevant domains, policies and procedures and of operational requirements
- Ability to work as part of a team, making effective contributions to team meetings and initiatives and be able to take proactive and independent ownership of tasks and projects
- Fluency in both written and spoken English required. Any other European language is considered as an asset
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Solvency II regulatory environment, regimes and requirements
- Insurance market knowledge including Lloyd’s, London Market & International Markets and other financial services markets
- Knowledge of non-financial/operational risk management, including knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, key risk concepts and approaches and how this works in practice in financial services
- Knowledge of corporate governance principles and structures
- Knowledge of financial and operational processes/areas in Data, Conduct, or Finance in the insurance industry is preferred and knowledge of other areas including IT, Operations, People, Outsourcing is an advantage
Experience:
- Experience of working in the Financial Services regulatory environment in a role that involved ensuring compliance with Belgian or EU regulatory requirements relevant to the role
- Good market awareness and industry knowledge
- Analytical, strategic thinker, with good reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Experience in designing, analysing and presenting information to all levels of the company
- Confident, structured and clear communicator
- Management and organisational skills, able to work with teams across multiple business areas
- Experience in performing a second-line Risk Management role is preferred. Experience in managing risks in operational processes is considered an advantage
- Experience in managing and challenging senior stakeholders
