Who are we?
DRC ’s EU Representation office in Brussels aims to optimize DRC’s visibility towards, partnership with, and influence of the EU. On advocacy, the team engages with and provides concrete recommendations towards EU institutions to influence policies related to refugees and people affected by conflict and displacement, based on knowledge from DRC country operations worldwide. The EU Humanitarian Advocacy Intern reports directly to the DRC Brussels Senior EU Advocacy Advisor and is part of a small, dynamic team located centrally in Brussels.
Together with other DRC representation offices, DRC Brussels is part of the Department for Partnership, Advocacy and Engagement and Resource Mobilisation (PAER) at DRC HeadQuarters.
About the job
You will work alongside and support colleagues in the DRC Brussels Representation, with an emphasis on the following tasks:
Monitor developments, provide analyses and inform relevant colleagues, on issues related to humanitarian crises, fragile settings, and the displacement and conflict-affected populations within the geographic and thematic portfolio of DRC’s European Union advocacy and external engagement efforts
Draft internal and external products (policy briefs, advocacy messages, briefing notes, etc)
Support with stakeholder mapping and maintaining contact lists for advocacy outreach
Support with tasks related to logistics and coordination of both internal and external meetings
Maintain Insite (intranet) pages for the team and other internal and external communication tools, including the DRC EU internal Newsletter and DRC EU social media networks
Format and proofread documents, EU advocacy related tools and Insite pages
Other administrative tasks
There might be additional tasks assigned depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a keen interest in humanitarian operations, global displacement and migration; have knowledge about EU institutions and legal frameworks; and master both written and spoken English.
Moreover we expect the following:
Required
University degree (bachelor required, master recommended) in law, social sciences, international development, humanitarian aid, or any other relevant degree
Fluent written and spoken English
Be effective in the use of MS Office and knowledge of/experience with Office 365
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Be able to work independently as well as in a team
Be able to work systematically and in a well-organised, structured manner
Have an eye for detail and strive to get the job done.
Desirable
Knowledge of and interest in EU humanitarian advocacy, or previous experience in the humanitarian sector.
Familiar with the work of civil society, non-governmental organizations, the United Nations, and/or EU institutions.
Please note that you must have the right to work in Belgium (through nationality or existing work visa) in order to be considered or this role. DRC is not in a position to support relocation to Brussels.
We offer
Paid internship for 6 months (Belgian Contract – “Contract Belge d’immersion professionelle”).

Start date : 6 October 2025
Duration: 6 months – with possibility to extend up to another 6 months
