This position is a six-month secondment to cover the responsibilities of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) during her planned leave, commencing around November 2025.
Context:
This role is an ‘independent control function’ under regulatory requirements prescribed by the National Bank of Belgium (‘NBB’) as part of the NBB’s Fit & Proper rules. Consequently, the holder of this role, in interim capacity, is required to meet prescribed NBB fit and proper requirements that will be separately provided to the holder for their participation in the necessary fitness and propriety process. The holder of the role, in interim capacity, is also required to attend the Board meetings in absence of the permanent CRO who serves as an Executive Director on the Board. Formal delegation of the permanent CRO’s responsibilities to the interim role holder will be done to allow the interim role holder to fulfill his/her duties.
This role includes responsibility for the UK branch of LIC and has been designated as a key function under regulatory requirements prescribed by the PRA and FCA as part of the Senior Insurance Managers regime. As a consequence, the holder of this role is a key function performer and is required to meet prescribed FCA and PRA conduct standards.
Role Purpose:
To lead the risk management function within Lloyd’s Europe and its branches. Responsible for ensuring Lloyd’s Europe (including its EU/EEA and UK branches) has effective risk management systems and controls in place.
Responsible for driving improvements in the risk culture and maturity of Lloyd’s Europe across all functions and therefore contributing to the wider achievement of business and strategic objectives. Personne relais for the outsourced second line Actuarial function.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Lead the effectiveness of risk management function throughout LIC, through the embedding and continuous improvement of the Company’s Risk Management and Actuarial frameworks.
- Be accountable (via the permanent CRO) to the LIC Board for risk issues, including strategic risks and the operation of the LIC risk framework and risk management function according to the Solvency II regime.
- Lead the LIC Risk Management Framework and take accountability for the quality and effectiveness of the company’s risk governance controls, including responsibility for the performance of the ‘Own Risk and Solvency Assessment’ process
- Develop and operate the LIC Risk Strategy in accordance with the risk mitigation strategies set by the LIC Board; ensure that the assessment and use of risk and capital in strategic decision making are effectively embedded and used by the company
- Oversee the design and formulation of risk appetites to manage all significant financial, non-financial and other risks facing the company
- Ensure a robust risk management framework is in place to identify, assess and manage all risks facing LIC that also meets the requirements of Solvency II and regulatory expectations
- Ensure all material risks facing LIC are identified, assessed and appropriately managed and that actions are taken where necessary
- Promote risk management standards through the provision of advice on risk management best practices and their implementation
- Act as the personne relais for the Actuarial Function in respect of the second line oversight of the work of the 1st line LIC actuarial and underwriting teams, ensuring that the Actuarial Function operates properly and that review of the reserving, underwriting and reinsurance oversight processes are properly carried out.
- Serve as Key Function Holder for the Risk Management function of the LIC UK branch. Support UK branch in ensuring continued compliance with operations and effective risk management, through embedding the risk management framework and appropriate risk support and challenge.
- Represent the Risk function and personne relais for second line Actuarial function in all interactions with the home state regulatory (National Bank of Belgium).

Experience
- Experienced in the Financial Services regulatory environment in a role that involved ensuring compliance with Belgian or EU regulatory requirements relevant to the role
- Experience of leading strategic initiatives across multiple business areas.
- Experience of working in multi jurisdiction, complex and rapidly changing regulatory environments
- Experience of working in complex business and financial services environments with a large number of senior stakeholders
- Experience in the Lloyd’s/London Market and Global insurance sector with strong market and industry knowledge.
- Experience of advising on both financial and non-financial risk
- Experience of analysing complex risk, financial, operational and insurance industry information.
