Intro
Millions of people are fleeing war, hunger, persecution or natural disasters. Most of them reside in third-world countries. But people also arrive in Belgium in search of a new home and a safe haven.
At the request of the government, the Belgian Red-Cross receives refugees in a temporary emergency reception center in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe.
Functiebeschrijving
- You will manage the center together with the center manager. You will be responsible for organizing day-to-day operations and monitoring the budgets.
- You are responsible for overseeing the medical team in the center and on a daily basis will deal with healthcare providers and specialists.
- Besides the medical team, you will monitor a number of areas of operation that are divided according to the needs of the center management and your own competencies, including drawing up work schedules, personnel administration, organizing facility services and consulting with the caterer, coordinating integration and volunteers, monitoring psychosocial support and providing services related to the asylum procedure.
- You are, together with the team of other deputy Center Managers, responsible for the liveability of the reception center and the provision of good services to the inhabitants;
- You are the point of contact for employees, applicants for international protection and external contacts;
- You provide feedback to the headquarters of the Red Cross in Flanders and consult with them where necessary;
- You will coordinate the operation of the center in accordance with agreements with the head office, agreements with the government and legal standards.
Jouw profiel
- You have at least a bachelor's degree, preferably you have a qualification and/or experience as a healthcare specialist;
- You have natural leadership skills. Preferably, you have at least some initial leadership experience. Persuasiveness is also one of your strengths;
- You have knowledge and/or experience in psychosocial counselling. Experience in crisis counselling and working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds is recommended. Knowledge of the asylum procedure is an advantage;
- You have organizational talent and can demonstrate a healthy dose of flexibility;
- You are confident and act decisively in difficult situations.
- You are creative and solution-oriented.
- You have good communication skills and can express yourself fluently in English. Besides that, a good knowledge of Dutch and French is a must. Knowledge of any other languages is an additional asset.
- You are willing to work evenings and weekends.
Ons aanbod
- 38 hours per week – regular evening and weekend work;
- Permanent contract with emergency shelter clause: duration depends on the government assignment in the context of organizing emergency accomodation for applicants for international protection

- Together with your colleagues in the center management team (center manager and deputy center manager(s)), you will ensure permanent services within a 24/7 working environment, for which you will receive a gross premium;
- You will work 8-hour shifts in an average 38-hour week on a quarterly basis
- Meal vouchers worth 8 euros per day;
- Group insurance and possibility of joining hospitalisation insurance with personal contribution
- Commuting by train is fully reimbursed; 75% contribution for use of other public transport (bus, tram, metro, etc.); bicycle allowance of 0.36€/km; other means of transport (car, motorcycle, etc.) is in line with sectoral and legal regulations.
