VIB (Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie) is a renowned life sciences research institute in Belgium, committed to conducting groundbreaking research in life sciences and biotechnology with an excellent reputation in technology transfer. The VIB Technologies program constitutes the centralized scientific research infrastructure of the institute and allows scientists access to high-end and innovative technologies. The VIB Technologies comprises multiple state-of-the-art core facilities, each with a specific technology focus and embedded within the VIB centers in Ghent, Leuven, or Brussels. The role of these core facilities is to support the 1900 researchers at VIB with their expertise. Within VIB technologies we have over 120 staff members.
As part of VIB Technologies, the Single Cell Core is a two-sited service platform (Ghent & Leuven) to provide access to different single cell sequencing technologies. We offer high-quality and affordable single cell sequencing supported by automation. Our integrated approach spans the multi-disciplinary nature of single cell omics experiments, from tissue to data. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated colleague to join our team in Ghent.
Role and responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of wetlab experiments including single-cell/nuclei sequencing, cell processing, FACS and sample preparation.
- Maintain accurate documentation of experiments, including protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), experimental results. Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Stay updated with the latest scientific advancements and emerging technologies relevant to single-cell and spatial omics.
- Involvement in implementation of new technologies in the context of single-cell pipelines and improvement of laboratory workflows (e.g. automation through liquid handling robotics). Position requirements and qualifications
- You possess at least a Bachelor degree in life sciences, ideally you already have at least a first relevant work experience in a laboratory/research environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of basic life-science wetlab techniques (including cell handling, cell culture, molecular biology) is considered a plus.
- Affinity with cell biology - cell analysis techniques (e.g. FACS or scRNA-seq) is highly preferred.
- Proactive attitude in supporting researchers in their scientific endeavors, coupled with a service-oriented mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to leverage unique skill sets to fulfill the project requirements.
- Eager to participate in training programs to expand your skill set.
- You are fluent in English, a prerequisite to support research and operations at the international environment of VIB.
