Research within the Advanced Integrated Sensing Lab (ADVISE) at Campus Geel is focused on the development of electronics for harsh environments, including extreme temperatures and radiation environments. Target applications are space missions, aviation, current and future nuclear (fission and fusion) reactors (e.g. ITER), experiments in high-energy physics (such as those installed on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN), medical imaging, nuclear safety etc.
We are seeking two highly motivated Postdoctoral Researchers to join an exciting research project focused on the development of next-generation satellite-based surveillance systems, in collaboration with a leading Belgian industrial partner and supported by VLAIO (Flemish Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship).The project focuses on the design and prototyping of spaceborne platforms and payloads for remote sensing, monitoring, and situational awareness, and with particular emphasis on RF (Radio-Frequency) systems, SDR (Software Defined Radio), and SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) technologies. Key components include antenna design, RF front-end development, and SAR signal processing pipelines. The project will progress from system modeling and simulation to prototyping and hardware integration. The candidates will be instrumental in advancing satellite platform development, addressing both hardware and signal processing aspects.

Responsibilities
- Design and modeling of RF payload components and architectures.
- Development and simulation of antenna systems.
- Electromagnetic compatibility and performance analysis for space-based deployment.
- Collaboration with a Belgian industrial partner on hardware integration and test plans.
Profile
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field.
- Proven experience in RF system design and electromagnetic simulation.
- Strong background in RF engineering, including SDR, for high-frequency applications.
- Familiarity with satellite system requirements is an asset.
- Ability to conduct independent research and contribute to collaborative team efforts.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to engage with both academic and industrial stakeholders.
- Track record of publications in relevant fields.
