Field safety responsibilities

  • Implementing HSE procedures and standards in compliance with applicable laws, Health and Safety Documentation and Environmental Management Manual. Always ensure collaboration and support to HSE colleagues both in the preparation phase through the verification and approval of the MS/JSA and during the execution of the works.
  • Make sure that work permits are obtained before to start any activity and ensure related compliance with permit conditions.
  • Being responsible for the highest standards in housekeeping for assigned area and to promptly inform Safety Supervisor about unsafe work procedures.
  • Be diligent and proactive in correcting unsafe acts, unsafe behaviors and unsafe conditions.
  • Be diligent in reporting to the appropriate level of Construction Supervision and Subcontractor management all unsafe acts, unsafe Behaviour, and unsafe conditions. Participate and assist the incident investigations.


Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Maintain coordination with other discipline supervisors/superintendent working in the area to coordinate all the activities and manage related interferences.
  • Organize their own activities and the ones of the supervisors assigned in close collaboration with the line Construction Manager, keeping track of the activities carried out through work files, guaranteeing continuity even in the event of absence through sharing of information and teamwork.
  • Check the efficient productivity of Subcontractors activities with regards to the quality and quantity (jointly with Project Control).
  • Make sure that all the assigned activities are carried out on time, otherwise check deficiency and refer to Construction Manager to promptly define and implement corrective actions that allow compliance with the schedule.
  • Verify and discuss with Construction Manager and Field Project Engineer modification or any difference raised on the activity relevant to previous and following points and cooperate with them to issue Sketches Layout (SKL) for the relevant modification, when works must be executed in different way as indicated on drawings.
  • Propose any improvement solution that arises during the execution of the works and support the Field Project Engineer in answering to Subcontractor’s site queries.
  • Record any modification after approval and, in cooperation with Construction Manager, inform Subcontract Administrator for contractual changing.
  • Prepare and fill the Request of Work Execution (R.W.E.) form for any extra work not included in the contract or for field modification, for further approval by other functions, before the execution of the work itself, as per procedure by Subcontracting Department.
  • Supported by the discipline supervisors, check by the "Manpower presence report" the quantity of Subcontractor's manpower present on site (jointly with Subcontracting Management).
  • Check, sign and collect all Subcontractor Time Sheets when the work is reimbursed on hourly basis.
  • Prepare/check Subcontractor's monthly/weekly progress of work and transmit relevant data to Project Control.
  • Ensure in advance that no hold can occur for Subcontractors work due to lack of needed engineering documents and materials or work area accessibility to avoid Subcontractor claims (jointly with Project Control and Field Engineer).
  • Support discipline supervisors to prepare and issue to Subcontractor the Construction and Final Punch Lists and follow up the completion of relevant outstanding works.
  • Support discipline supervisors to make sure that Subcontractors follow the provisions of the approved ITP and the inspections are called timely and in according to the procedure established for the project.
  • Support discipline supervisors to always ensure collaboration to QC Inspector during the execution of the related inspections.
  • Support discipline supervisors identifying possible non-Conformities according to the Quality Assurance System Procedure and suggest the related Corrective Action. Specific tasks and responsibilities
  • Check in advance, in cooperation with Material Controller, if the material to be used for the erection of planned works is available and report to Area Superintendent/Construction Manager any deficiency and the information on the approximate arriving date of material.
  • Make sure that the prefabricated pipes are stored in a suitable place according to the pipe class, that the covers are well installed to prevent internal damage and that they are easily identifiable.
  • Ensure that the subcontractor keeps the material received from the warehouse in a suitable and tidy place and that the same is not mixed and used for other purposes than the one for which it was released unless this is explicitly authorized.
  • In cooperation with project control and with the Construction Manager/Area Superintendent, define the correct pipe assembly sequences considering the priorities and the available constructability studies.
  • Work with the HL supervisor and safety colleagues to ensure that lifts are conducted in accordance with the method statement and that all prescribed lift precautions are followed.
  • Collaborate with the instrument supervisor for the preparation of the lines and the installation/removal of the instruments during the various phases of the construction up to the tests and correctly record the various steps in the punch lists according to the provisions of the project procedures.
  • Check equipment condition on arrival at site. Assist the Material Controller, when required, for the unloading of equipment and checking of the parts that arrive disassembled on site.
  • Check that all machineries are protected and supervise the routine maintenance in accordance with Project procedure and Vendor's instruction, during erection period.
  • Record of maintenance shall be prepared and filed to assure that the equipment is properly protected and maintained.
  • Check the disassembly of equipment accessories before installation. Issue work order to Subcontractor to install equipment.
  • Supervise the assembly of equipment.
  • Check the paralleling of the flange connection with the pipelines and the efficiency of piping support to avoid damage to the equipment.
  • Supervise and check the lubrication and auxiliary system of equipment in accordance with Vendor's Instructions.
  • Keep record of modifications and send to Material Controller information necessary to issue a back charge to equipment Vendor's if necessary.
  • Prepare and fill the testing and obtain approval of installation from Client
  • Check spare part delivery and correct transfer to Client warehouse.
  • Take care of the protection and maintenance of equipment delivered but not immediate erected and preserved in the construction warehouse, according to Vendor and regulations and procedures. Record of maintenance shall be prepared and filed to assure that the equipment is properly protected and maintained.
  • Schedule assistance of Vendor’s personnel, if necessary, as specified in scope of work.
