YOUR TASKS
- You will be employed as a postdoctoral researcher on the ERC Starting Grant project “FLOWSCOPY: Unravelling unsteady fluid flows in porous media with 3D X-ray micro-velocimetry”. You will perform groundbreaking experimental research on the fundamentals of fluid flow in porous materials, particularly regarding viscoelastic and multiphase flows. To this end, you will mainly use time-resolved X-ray micro-computed tomography, e.g. to perform novel X-ray particle velocimetry measurements. In collaboration with other researchers working on the project, you will also contribute to methodological advancements to improve the experimental capabilities, mainly to enable faster and more reliable measurements with this method.
- You will present your research in high-quality international scientific journal publications and conferences.
- You support other researchers in the group to build and run safe and effective experimental setups to perform X-ray imaging of fluids in porous media, including experiments at elevated pressure and temperature and with gases, and with analyzing the resulting data.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a thesis-based doctorate related to fluid flow and transport in porous materials, fluid mechanics, or a related research domain.
- You have experience with 3D imaging applied to fluid flow in porous materials.
- You are an experienced hands-on experimentalist, preferably having experience with building setups to study fluid flow in porous materials, high-pressure setups, temperature control, and working with gases.
- You are a team player with good communication skills and enjoy interacting with more junior researchers, and helping to mentor them.
- You have a track record of high-quality scientific publications and presentations.
- Experience with classical rheology measurements is a plus.
- Experience with particle velocimetry and/or microfluidics is a plus.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a contract of definite duration of 18 months.
- Your contract will start on 15/11/2025 at the earliest.
