YOUR TASKS
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the effects of atmospheric plasmas on biomaterials and food packaging materials. This project focuses on the functionalization of materials, employing advanced characterization techniques to study how various plasma operational parameters influence scaffold properties, cellular responses, and material performance in packaging applications.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate the mechanisms of plasma–tissue, plasma–biomaterial, and plasma–food packaging interactions.
- Develop and optimize cold plasma treatments to enhance scaffold biocompatibility, cell adhesion, tissue regeneration, and packaging material functionality.
- Design and conduct in vitro studies to evaluate plasma-based approaches in tissue engineering and food packaging.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of biomedical engineers, physicists, materials scientists, and packaging experts.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at leading international conferences.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a PhD in Engineering Physics
- You are familiar with plasma technology and plasma chemical processes.
- You have a solid background in and experience with experimental physics.
- You have basic knowledge of surface analytic techniques and plasma characterization.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a full time contract of definite duration: a duration of 12 months and an employment rate of 100%.
- Your contract will start on 1/10/2025 at the earliest.
- All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, a bicycle allowance and eco vouchers.
