The Economics and Research Department of the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) carries out economic and financial analysis and research, providing a clear and accurate picture of economic trends. This work is intended to support the NBB's tasks in the areas of monetary policy and prudential supervision, but also to evaluate economic policy in general. The department publishes its work and organises events in order to inform both policymakers and the general public.
To help achieve these objectives, the NBB supports academic research, in particular by promoting the use of microeconomic data in research work.

Function
As Data Manager
- you will develop and manage microeconomic data sets from several complex microeconomic databases for research purposes
- you will manage the provision of this data in a specific IT environment, both for members of the department and for external university teams
- you will monitor developments in the various source databases (e.g. changes in data content), as well as in software and IT solutions

you will make use of and further develop your knowledge of a wide range of data analysis tools (e.g. statistical methods, machine learning, data visualisation applications, econometric and artificial intelligence tools) to support the department's work.
As a Candidate
- you have a master's degree, or equivalent professional experience, in quantitative economics, data or computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or statistics
- you have a thorough command of the latest software (incl. Python and/or R, Stata and SQL procedures) and data notebooks
- experience in processing large and complex granular data sets, particularly in the microeconomic field, is an asset
- you have good organisational skills
- you can work independently and creatively, but also help and collaborate with others
- you have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

you have a good command of English (B2 level).
