Job description
Are you a recent graduate passionate about neuroscience and eager to build a career in lab management? The Laboratory of Interneuron Developmental Dynamics, led by Dr. Lynette Lim at the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research, is looking for a full-time Research Technician to support our cutting-edge research on brain development and play a central role in lab operations.
We are based at Campus Gasthuisberg in Leuven, Belgium, and our research explores how inhibitory brain circuits are wired during development. We use a wide array of techniques including mouse genetics, advanced imaging, single-cell RNA sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics.
Responsibilities
This position is ideal for someone who wants to gain hands-on experience in both research and lab management. You’ll be involved in:
- Managing lab operations – ordering supplies, maintaining lab equipment, and ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning of the lab.
- Working with mouse models – including colony management, genotyping, and surgical procedures such as stereotaxic injections.
- Performing key experiments – histology (sectioning, staining, imaging), molecular cloning, and in vitro virus production.
- Analyzing and presenting data – help turn experiments into insights and findings.
- Learning to lead – you'll be mentored to take on more responsibility, potentially growing into a lab manager role.
We are looking for someone who’s enthusiastic, organized, and excited to take ownership of lab operations while deepening their scientific skills.
Profile
- Recently graduated with a degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Bachelor or Master).
- Familiar with basic lab techniques, including buffer preparation, molecular biology, and immunostaining.
- FELASA B certification and experience with handling animals is a strong plus.
- Curious, detail-oriented, and a collaborative team player.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Eager to learn new techniques and take initiative.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
What we offer
- A full-time position starting in around Sept/Oct 2025, initially for one year with potential for long-term extension.
- A dynamic and international research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities.
- Ongoing training, mentoring, and skill development to prepare you for a future role as lab manager or advanced research technician.
- Opportunities to work with innovative techniques like spatial transcriptomics, gene editing, and single-cell technologies.
- Supportive colleagues and a vibrant scientific community at KU Leuven and VIB.
