Your position
You will work in a team of about 20 people in the department of Technical Support & Services, where you will be handling various projects linked to the industrialisation of new steel grades (organising and following up industrial trials, sampling of industrial production and setting up lab test waves to evaluate and study the product materials).
Within our team we support the final product developments. Therefore we are working closely together with both the project researchers in OCAS and the production responsible in ArcelorMittal Plants. You will attend industrial trials at AM Plants, organise sampling campaigns of industrial material and subsequently launch and coordinate the characterization of this material and evaluate the results.
All projects are executed with a whole project team, consisting of engineers and technicians at OCAS, as well as representatives of our respective partners in various ArcelorMittal plants.
From metallurgical point of view, you will be working on the understanding of the link between chemistry, processing and microstructure (texture development, precipitation, grain growth, phase transformations etc) and the effect on the final properties. For this, a large variety of laboratory synthesis tools is at your disposal, varying from casting, over rolling down to thermal treatments. For characterisation, you will have the most advanced characterisation techniques available that exist today, from application side (mechanical, magnetic, corrosion, etc) as well as (electron)microscopy.
Your profile
- You own a master’s degree in Materials Science
- You have a large interest in metal processing and steel production as well as a profound knowledge on metal characterisation techniques
- You have a high capacity to be flexible and handle a variety of projects
- You have excellent social skills to work in a team-based environment
- You are prepared to travel on a regular basis within Europe
- You are fluent in English (spoken and written); knowledge of Dutch is an asset
- Having a driver’s license is an asset
