YOUR TASKS
- This vacancy supports the European Commission's Horizon Europe project Better-B, which is coordinated by Ghent University.
- You will dedicate at least 30% of your assignment to providing administrative support to project management.
- You will serve as work package leader for work packages 2, "Resilience to Chemicals," and 9, "Coordination and Management."
- You will supervise doctoral students affiliated with this European project within the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology (WE10).
- You will contribute to the dissemination of research results from this project.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a PhD in biochemistry or biochemistry and biotechnology, or a discipline deemed admissible by the assessment committee.
- You have experience managing European Commission projects, specifically monitoring implementation by the various partners and financial and scientific reporting and accountability (periodic reports).
- You have experience with molecular biology research on honeybees, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
- You have already conducted research in the development of rapid laboratory tests for detecting genetic variants (TaqMan assays).
- You are familiar with assessing gene expression based on RNAseq and qRT-PCR techniques.
- You are familiar with setting up and conducting field experiments in which honeybee colonies are exposed to chemicals, as well as assessing these.
- You are familiar with setting up and conducting cage experiments and assessing humoral and cellular immunity of individual honeybees.
- You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher during your postdoctoral work.
- You have a strong interest in mentoring students in academic and/or advanced academic programs.
- You have relevant scientific publications in widely distributed international and national scientific journals that rely on experts to assess submitted manuscripts.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of 20 months.
- Your contract will start on 1/10/2025 at the earliest.
- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
