The role reports to the London-based Financial Sector Marketing & Communications Group Global Marketing & Communications Director. The successful colleague will be a core member of the global communications team and the Marketing & Communications Group. In addition, you will work closely with financial services client activation colleagues to ensure priority events deliver impact ultimately driving client conversion and promoting our brand and capabilities. You will also collaborate with comms colleagues in local markets and global capability teams (“CoEs”), including Optimize, Brand Marketing, Centre for Events ands Partnerships, Media Relations, and Risk/Legal to ensure the successful execution and delivery of the events program.
In this role, you will serve as the first point of contact for events, ensuring that guidance and support are provided by the team in a timely and appropriate manner. You will determine the level of support the event organizing team can expect from the Marketing & Communications Group or other teams within the firm. You will take ownership of the practice’s flagship event programs, shaping and executing them in alignment with the practice’s strategic R&E plans and in collaboration with cross-Marketing & Communications Group global R&E leaders and the board. These programs include high-profile events such as the Global Digital Banking Conference in Barcelona, held in partnership with McKinsey Digital, as well as other executive roundtables targeting senior client and industry leaders. Your focus will be on prioritizing high-impact events where collaboration with client activation colleagues can deliver the greatest positive outcomes.
You will manage partnerships and programming with credible third-party organizations, such as InsureTechConnect in Las Vegas and Europe, SWIFT’s Sibos Payments Conference, Money 20/20 (Asia, Europe, and North America), Fintech Meetup, and FIA Boca. Additionally, you will help develop and promote clear guidance for client service teams to self-serve in building events, consolidating and signposting best practice materials from the Firm’s Client Events and Partnerships team and other Marketing & Communications Group teams.
As part of your responsibilities, you will manage colleagues within the Marketing & Communications Group, including those on rotation with an event focus, by outlining priorities, ensuring consistent delivery, and fostering an efficient operating environment. You will also oversee budget tracking and reporting, playing an integral role in the Marketing & Communications Group leadership team by preparing core information for monthly and quarterly reports shared with practice and regional leadership.
You will coordinate and manage cross-functional event teams and work closely with relevant event steering committees. This includes overseeing staffed teams and support functions in the design and execution of events, covering programming, amplification, and logistics. You will ensure that client activation colleagues are clear on their responsibilities for providing return-on-investment tracking information. Building deep relationships with local offices, regional teams, the Client Events & Partnerships team, and the broader Marketing & Communications Group will be essential to support and guide the execution of priority practice events. This includes advising on content, speakers, format, and dissemination strategies.
You will also lead agency management on occasional projects or workstreams, such as event production, branding, and design. Leveraging tools and available information, you will ensure the team remains informed about the global external events calendar, enabling financial services practice leadership and client activation colleagues to prioritize strategic investments in the most relevant events. This will help maintain and grow the reputation of the practices, the firm, and individual leaders.
In addition, you will pilot new event formats or technologies to enhance attendee engagement and improve the overall experience at McKinsey-hosted events or conferences where the practice has a presence. Finally, you will tailor R&E activities to support client development efforts across various channels, including hosted events and content dissemination.

Your qualifications and skills

  • At least a bachelor's degree, ideally in marketing
  • Minimum five years of communications or project management experience, ideally with a background and interest in events and the banking and insurance sectors.
  • Ability and experience working on a global team across multiple time zones
  • Project management and senior stakeholder management, as you’ll be owning programs end-to-end and will be required to propose and get buy-in on the overall approach
  • High level of attention to detail essential
  • Demonstrated record of writing communications materials (executive briefing materials, email communications, etc.) and planning documents
  • Must have a positive and friendly manner, with a strong service orientation, a high degree of flexibility, and the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong strategic capability, but willing to 'roll one's sleeves up' and act tactically when required.
