Knowledge of the Dutch language is a prerequisite for this job
Jan De Nul is a leading player in the construction industry, specializing in large-scale projects — both on land and at sea. With a deep-rooted passion for engineering, our family-owned company strives for innovation and sustainability in everything we do. The driving force behind our success? A strong team of talented and dedicated professionals.
To support our Civil Engineering sites from Aalst, we are looking for a HSE Advsior.
As a QHSSE Advisor, you play a key role in monitoring the quality, health, safety, security, and environment (QHSSE) on our civil construction sites. The Defense Headquarters in Evere, the prison in Antwerp, the Oosterweel connection, Energy Island, VRT in Brussels — all part of Jan De Nul Group.
As an HSE Advisor, you will:
Be responsible for quality, health, safety, security, and environmental matters during the prequalification, tender, and start-up phases on civil construction sites.
Evaluate the QHSSE risks of your projects and assist the project manager in achieving SMART objectives.
Advise site managers, foremen, and workers on safety at their projects and encourage them to uphold the highest safety standards.
Draft instructions for the safe and proper use of new equipment and machinery.
Assist with organizing safety training for our projects and sites.
Act as a partner to site and project management, bridging the gap between the site and Jan De Nul’s office departments. Your helicopter view and extensive (internal) network help ensure smooth and safe operations on site.
Facilitate and carry out QHSSE audits and inspections.
Investigate accidents that occur on site and follow up on the safety changes made to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Observe and analyze safety issues that arise on site and log them properly via our platform. You will also follow up on these incidents.
What do you need?
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental management, safety management, construction, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Experience as an environmental coordinator, safety coordinator, or prevention advisor is a plus.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. You can talk to anyone in an appropriate manner and are capable of coaching and guiding others.
A team player who can also work independently.
The ability to set priorities and plan effectively to meet deadlines.
A love for variety. No day is the same as a QHSSE Advisor. Your schedule can change last minute, and you often won’t know how or where your day will begin or end.
Strong and assertive. If you notice an unsafe situation, you will speak up and thoroughly investigate the issue. You won’t be easily dismissed and will continue in a respectful manner if met with resistance.
Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions on site.
A collaborative mindset with site management, maintaining a practical and critical approach.
Based in Aalst, but willing to travel occasionally to our sites.
Working at Jan De Nul means joining the search for solutions to some of the biggest challenges of our time: from the energy transition and rising sea levels to smart mobility. It means learning and collaborating every day, with the goal of ensuring global quality of life for future generations.
What do we offer you?

The opportunity to engage in physical activities at work through our FIT program.
An indefinite-term contract with 42 paid vacation days (20 statutory, 12 ADV days, and 10 holidays).
